Development Assistant

POSITION SUMMARY:  The Development Assistant is a part-time (25 hours per week), benefit-eligible position. The person in this role works with the California Director of Development and other members of the Development team to support friend-raising, fundraising and donor stewardship activities for the California Regional Office in accordance with the Province’s mission, vision and values.
Financial and Administrative
  1. Process development office mail, including opening envelopes and preparing donations for data entry and deposit
  2. Prepare personalized cards for donor and recipients of Gift of Prayer requests
  3. Assist with data entry, filing, bank deposits, other clerical duties as scheduled
  4. Assist director and database manager with reports
  5. Responsible for ordering office supplies and maintaining office equipment
  6. Track California Development office income and expenses. Prepare financial reports as requested, including monthly summaries for Province finance office.
Fundraising and Marketing
  1. Collaborate with CA development team on CA campaigns across communication channels with emphasis on off-line fundraising.
  2. As directed, send electronic communications, particularly electronic newsletters, to benefactors and key audiences.
  3. Develop and implement timelines for printed materials to support fundraising and event goals.
  4. Using InDesign or Publisher, create or revise materials to support the fundraising program.
  5. Coordinate printing and mailing of fundraising materials, including coordinating with external printers and mail houses.
  6. Update the California development office website and provides information to the Province office to be included on the USON website.
  7. Assist with planning and execution of events (including 1-2 ticketed fundraising events per year) in collaboration with other development team members and volunteers.
  8. Other duties as assigned.

Education/Experience:  Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and professional experience. Three-four years’ experience with basic office equipment, database entry, financial record-keeping, and graphic design software. Donor Perfect experience a plus.
  • Must be supportive of the mission of the Sisters of the Holy Names of Jesus and Mary. 
  • Working knowledge of English grammar, spelling, and punctuation to compose and edit business documents and materials and to create professional letters, spreadsheets, and presentations
  • Demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills to interact professionally, diplomatically and productively with colleagues and contacts at all levels
  • Extensive working knowledge of MS Office Suite programs, including a proven ability to use Excel to prepare reports, lists, nametags
  • Experience using database programs, Donor Perfect experience preferred
  • Ability to develop, implement and maintain office procedures and systems
  • Experience using software such as Quicken, Quickbooks, or a similar program to track income and expense
  • Ability to take initiative, be self-directed, and prioritize multiple tasks and perform tasks independently
  • Attention to detail with accuracy, project management skills, and being highly organized are critical
  • Interest and desire to learn how to become an impactful development professional
  • High level of confidentiality and professionalism
  • Knowledge of SNJM, women religious organizations, or non-profit environment preferred
  • Ability to work with ambiguity in a changing environment
