ABOUT THE SISTERS OF THE HOLY NAMES OF JESUS AND MARY
The Sisters of the Holy Names of Jesus and Mary (SNJM) is an international congregation of Catholic Sisters based in Montreal, Canada. The U.S.-Ontario Province has offices in in Oregon, California, Washington, and Windsor, Ontario, Canada. The Sisters of the Holy Names have a long history of educating young women and other ministry work dating back to the founding of the order in 1843. The Sisters are dedicated to the full development of the human person through education, social justice, contemplation and the arts.

POSITION SUMMARY: The Director of Development will plan and implement a comprehensive fundraising program to further the mission of the Sisters of the Holy Names, to include major gifts, foundation giving, planned giving and special appeals and events.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Ensure the development program reflects the values of SNJM and is highly personalized to SNJM donors.
  2. In collaboration with the Province Leadership Team, identify fundraising priorities in order to create an annual development plan with goals and strategies for major gift programs, planned giving, annual fundraising events, i.e. Strawberry Day appeal and other relationship-building events.
  3. Establish a regular communication plan with development team members to keep them apprised of fundraising goals and outcomes. Prepare annual budget with input from development staff.
  4. Maintain an active portfolio of donors and prospective donors for cultivation, solicitation and stewardship.
  5. Provide strategies for developing major donors and ensure timely steps are taken to cultivate relationships.
  6. Strategize sources of funding through foundation grants, both locally and nationally.
  7. Manage annual event(s), appeals and other small group, donor-centered programs to further SNJM development priorities.
  8. Coach, supervise and evaluate development staff and ensure staff members have the tools needed to accomplish their jobs.
  9. Maintain knowledge of issues and laws related to fundraising and stay current on emerging fundraising strategies and technologies. Assure team members are kept informed of any changes or updates.

DIRECT REPORTS: Donor Relations Managers (4) and Donor Information & Stewardship Manager.

QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to accomplish satisfactorily the full essential duties and responsibilities listed in job description. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or ability required. Education: Advanced degree in business administration, marketing/public relations, non-profit management, accounting/finance or related field.

Experience: Minimum of 10 years’ progressively responsible experience in non-profit fund-raising, with a proven track record of successful fund-raising efforts. Demonstrated job performance in strategic thinking and program assessment abilities pertaining to campaigns, annual giving, corporate and foundation giving, and planned giving.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
  1. Supportive of the mission of the Sisters of the Holy Names of Jesus and Mary.
  2. Ability to respect and maintain confidentiality of sensitive information and to exhibit good judgment in making decisions.
  3. Strong management and leadership skills and a demonstrated ability to build, manage, mentor and motivate an effective team. Open to new ideas and innovations.
  4. Diplomacy, flexibility, maturity, and professionalism in performance of job responsibilities.
  5. Exceptional interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to foster respectful, collaborative relationships with development team members, SNJM staff and departments, sisters and external stakeholders.
  6. Excellent written and oral communication skills, with the ability to engage, market and educate SNJM donors and prospects on opportunities for philanthropic support.
  7. Knowledge of funding sources for faith-based organizations. Thorough understanding of all areas of charitable giving.
  8. Proven ability to research and benchmark practices and to collect, analyze and employ data to guide decisions.
  9. Computer proficiency, including extensive experience with development/fund-raising software. Donor Perfect database experience preferred.
  10. Ability to travel to other SNJM locations, professional conferences, and related events.

Salary:  $95,000 - $107,000.  The pay range for this position is annually based on a full-time schedule.  Actual compensation will be determined using factors such as experience, skills, training, certifications & education.
